The National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) has been encouraging universities across the region to deeply understand social issues within their locales and develop specific strategies from a humanistic perspective. To this end, it has initiated the "University-Local Government Cooperation for Local Humanities Development and Cross-Disciplinary Governance Project" (hereafter referred to as the Grand Local Project). Asia University, collaborating with the Yunlin County Government under this initiative, presented the research project titled "Sustainable Economic Creation in Green Industries," led by Vice President Ko. This project integrates faculties from the colleges of Information and Electrical Engineering, Management, and Design to address issues related to aging, low birth rates, industries, and resources in Yunlin County. Over the past two years, Asia University has effectively served as a valuable local think tank for Yunlin County.

The Grand Local Project is promoted by the NSTC, with Professor Jian from National Taiwan University serving as the project promotion office to drive, integrate, and assist universities approved by the NSTC's Grand Local Project. The project involves seven universities nationwide, including National Cheng Kung University, National Chi Nan University, Tamkang University, National Central University, National Taiwan Normal University, National Penghu University of Science and Technology, and Asia University. Each year, the project office organizes co-learning activities to facilitate experience exchange and learning among these universities.

This year, with NSTC's recognition, Asia University hosted the seven-school co-learning event on July 23-24. The event began with a welcome speech by President Tsai, who remarked that the Grand Local Project at Asia University, led by Vice President Ko and involving deans and faculties from three colleges, has achieved remarkable results thanks to the cooperation of Yunlin County Government. During the meeting, Vice President Ke emphasized the importance of experience sharing and mutual learning among the seven universities, which not only clarified the direction of the NSTC's Grand Local Project but also provided invaluable insights.

The second day's activities involved field observations and sharing sessions in Yunlin County. Wang, Director of Industry-Academia Cooperation, shared experiences on utilizing soil monitoring equipment and data to assist young farmers in sustainable operations and engage in dialogue with local government. He highlighted the potential for expanded benefits in future project implementations. This was followed by sharing sessions from local youth teams in Yunlin County, including Beigang Local Traveler Executive Director Kang and Chuang Life Academy Founder Wang Yuqi. Their unique experiences and practices were well-received by professors from the seven universities.

The event concluded with a speech from Yunlin County Government Director Li, who discussed the collaboration process between Yunlin County and various universities, aiming to combine academic expertise to create a prosperous future for Yunlin. Director Li stated that Yunlin County cannot afford to wait but must continuously strive forward, welcoming ongoing cooperation with universities. Finally, Professor Wang from the Department of Interior Design, who coordinated and organized the event, emphasized the importance of the Grand Local Project for local governments. He noted that universities should not only execute projects but also translate them into think tanks and expand their impacts to collaboratively address local issues. The overall event received widespread acclaim, with participants expressing hope for continued efforts to create a better future for local communities.
